Derrimut 24:7 Gym conducted an interview with Nathan Jay to discuss his fitness journey with Derrimut 24:7 as an Ambassador and Personal Trainer.
What inspired you to begin your fitness journey?
Ever since I was a kid i’ve always been active and participated in many sports for fun, it wasn't until in my mid teens when I started to take my fitness journey more seriously, what predominantly inspired me to push my boundaries was the tv show The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC. After getting inspired by these athletes I then joined a boxing gym and my journey and self confidence began to soar. Over the years of learning the lessons and discipline of Martial Arts I competed in boxing fights and eventually started and competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions.
How would you describe your style of training in a nutshell?
At this present time I am still in touch with my boxing roots and continue to practice the sport that made my job as a Personal Trainer at Derrimut 24:7 Gym Airport West and this fitness journey possible, however I have now developed many other unique training methods such as hybrid training, plyometrics, weight training and calisthenics. Also as a Personal Trainer and Coach I believe a trainer should have the skill set of being a jack of all trades and should have a general knowledge on all forms of exercise which I have and continue to develop.
How do you remain focused on an active and healthy lifestyle?
I remain focused and motivated as I am now in the fitness industry and currently working as a Personal Trainer at Derrimut 24:7 Gym Airport West and knowing I have a lot of people notice my workouts and watch my workout videos on Instagram @nathanjayk it only makes me more motivated and inspired to be better than i was yesterday and to inspire others and especially my clients because if I can do it so can they and also to practice what I preach. By being able to do the crazy exercises that elite athletes in Russia and USA are doing only makes me realise my capabilities that I have to show and inspire others
What are your top tips for training and/or staying motivated?
Top tips to staying motivated as Arnold schwarzenegger says always have a vision because if you don't have a vision on what you want to accomplish or look like then your goals won't be clear in your mind when you're going though pain of the workout
What advice would you give to individuals just starting their own fitness journey?
Advice to individuals starting their journey is to have a vision of what you want to accomplish especially early on make sure you have fun with your workouts so you go to the gym again the next day. In terms of muscle gain and weight loss diet is everything.
